Living With Planes: Inside California’s Neighborhood Built for Pilots | Bartell’s Backroads

Cameron Park’s Airpark in El Dorado County is unlike any other California neighborhood it’s a residential community built for pilots. With wide taxiway-style streets and homes featuring private hangars, residents can literally taxi their aircraft from their driveway to the runway. Among them is trailblazing pilot Julie Clark, one of the first female commercial airline pilots in the U.S. and founder of Julie Clark Airshow. Other residents include lifelong pilot Logan Peterson and retired Air Force commander Carl Gremlick, who fly everything from aerobatic planes to vintage warbirds. While property values are 30–35% higher due to limited availability, residents say the lifestyle and the sound of aircraft engines is worth every penny.
