1978 was a year when Australia’s beer drinking scene wasn’t just a culture, but a competition mate. When a beergut was something to be proud of, not frowned upon!

In 1978 This Day Tonight reported on the first Geelong Pubathon. Fifteen watering holes with a 7-ounce glass of beer in each, spread out over two-and-a-half miles. Teams competed to win ‘The ancient order of the froth blowers perpetual trophy.’
