On January 10, 2020, I set out to capture what I knew was going to be an amazing moonrise from my favorite location to capture downtown Los Angeles from, Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area in Baldwin Hills. The park is just about 7 miles southwest of the downtown skyline. There are multiple lookout points from within the park to catch a glimpse of that skyline and when you’re lucky enough, during the winter months, the snow capped San Gabriel Mountains with Mt. San Antonio (aka Mt. Baldy) towering at over 10,000 feet above them all. There’s this one particular vantage point that brings it all together, where Baldy sits directly behind the @intercontinentaldtla and @usbanktowerla buildings. And if you’re really lucky and do your homework, the moon will rise behind it all. Lots of people have seen mine and others photos and insist the mountains and the moon have been photoshopped behind the skyline. I feel sorry for those who have not witnessed this for themselves, it’s very magical. On more than one occasion, I’ve seen the place packed with 50 or more people lined up trying to capture the beauty. This time lapse proved more challenging than I thought it would be and it’s not without flaws but if you look past that, you will get a small taste of what it’s like to be there when all things line up. Shot along side some of my good friends @bay.photography @asteryx @shutter_doll @xrissvlad @dhavalilama @mikelindle @the_bluecloud @jw88photo @refujay • Who knew that just 16 days after this time lapse was taken, Kobe Bryant would die in a helicopter crash and just a few weeks after that, the world would succumb to a pandemic. It’s been a shitty year to say the least. Let’s hope 2021 turns out better 🙏🏻 . . . . . . . . . . . @nikonusa D850, ISO 250, Nikkor 200-500 5.6 at 350mm, f/6.8, 1760 frames proceed in #lrtimelapse & @lightroom, @premiereprocc ______________________________________________ #ourplanetdaily #ig_color #timelapse #cbviews #hello_worldpics #hello_rooftops #ABC7Eyewitness #discoverla #dtla #losangeles_city #losangeles_la #losangeles #beautifuldestinations #tim#conquer_la #dtla #NBC4You #moodygrams #caliinviteyou #citykillerz
