Khabib Nurmagomedov: Conor McGregor Doesn’t Deserve a Rematch

In October of last year, Russian reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov destroyed Conor McGregor at UFC 229.

During a recent press conference in London to promote his upcoming UFC 242 fight against Dustin Poirier, Nurmagomedov shared a few details about the fight that saw McGregor tapping out in the fourth round. The fighter first touched upon the duo’s post-fight brawl stating he has no regrets about it, to which he then stated McGregor doesn’t deserve a rematch. “In the last three years, he has only one victory in amateur boxing,” Khabib told the assembled press. “How does he deserve a rematch? He tapped.”

Nurmagomedov then went on to reveal that McGregor begged the Russian not to kill him during their UFC clash. “He begged me, ‘Please don’t kill me.’ Now we talking about a rematch?” He continued, “Tony Ferguson’s on the line. People who have win streaks are on the line. Not the guy who don’t win anything in the last three years.”

Both Nurmagomedov and McGregor received suspensions for their post-UFC 229 brawl. However Nurmagomedov will make his return when he fights against Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi on September 7. On the other-hand, McGregor’s UFC future is currently unknown after he announced his retirement in March.
