What is RSS?
RSS is a way to get updates whenever we post something new on the site. You can get and view these alerts in many different programs such as Mozilla Firefox, Outlook 2007, Mozilla Thunderbird and other popular RSS programs.

FIREFOX
MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2007
- Open Outlook 2007.
- From the Tools menu choose Account Settings.
- Click the RSS Feeds tab.
- Click the New button.
- In the New RSS Feed box, enter (type or paste) the RSS Feed address.
- Click Add.Note: If you enter the address incorrectly, you will see a message about Outlook not being able to connect to the server. Click OK. Re-enter the address and try again. Also, if you try to add the same address twice, you will see an error message as well.
- The RSS Feed Options dialog box will appear. In general, you should leave the default settings as is. Do not edit the Delivery Location. If the RSS Feed includes enclosures, for example an MP3 audio or video file, you may want to check the Download choice. If in doubt, leave the Download choices unchecked.
- Click OK. Click Close.Note: You can now check your RSS Feed.
- In Outlook’s list of Mail Folders, locate the RSS Feeds folder.
- Click the plus sign ( + ) beside the folder to expand it. You should see your new RSS Feeds folder here.Note: You can manually check for new feeds at any time. Normally you would wait for them to be delivered just like new mail. You will see new feeds appear in their folder as unread items.
- To manually check, from the Tools menu choose Send/Receive and then select the “RSS” Group.
- Wait for the Send/Receive to complete. Then look inside the RSS Feeds folder for new content.

Creating an RSS News & Blogs account
Before you can subscribe to any RSS feeds, you first need to create an RSS account. To do so:
- Go to the “File” menu and select “New -> Account”. Alternatively, you can go to the “Tools” menu and select “Account Settings”, and click on the “Add Account” button.
- In the dialog box that pops up, select “RSS News & Blogs” and press the “Next” button.
- Enter an account name, press the “Next” button, and finally press the “Finish” button. This new account will now appear in the folders pane in the main Thunderbird window.
Note: if the option to create an RSS account does not even appear, it is probably because you chose a “Custom” (rather than “Standard”) install of Thunderbird, and you did not select to include RSS Support in your installation. In that case, you should uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall it, making sure to include the RSS option this time.
Subscribing to an RSS feed
You subscribe to a feed through the “RSS Subscriptions” dialog (screenshot), which can be accessed in any of these ways:
- Right-click on the account name in the folders pane and select “Manage Subscriptions”.
- Click on the account name in the folders pane, and then click on the “Manage Subscriptions” link in the main Thunderbird window (screenshot).
- Go to “Tools -> Account Settings”, click on the account name in the left-hand pane, and then click the “Manage Subscriptions” button.
Once you’ve brought up the “RSS Subscriptions” dialog, all you need to do to subscribe to an RSS feed is click the “Add” button, enter the URL for the feed into the box, and click “OK” (screenshot). After the feed is verified, it will then appear in the “RSS Subscriptions” dialog and in the folders pane under the account.
In the same way, you can add more feeds under a single RSS account. If you subscribe to numerous feeds, you may wish to create more than one RSS News & Blogs account, each with multiple subscribed feeds.
Firefox
When you click the subscribe button Firefox will pop up with a live bookmark menu which lets you choose where you would like to place the bookmark for the site. When you view the bookmark it expands into a menu so you can see the titles of the latest posts.
