Rare Egg Sized Diamond Sells for a Record $35.3 Million Dollars!
Thursday, March 4th, 2010
Diamond supplier Petra Diamonds has sold a 507 carat diamond for $35.3 million, breaking the record for the highest price ever paid for a rough diamond. Reported to be as big as a chicken egg and weighing just over 100 grams, the stone is among the world’s top 20 high quality rough diamonds.
Recovered from Petra’s Cullinan mine in South Africa, such a rare gemstone has been sold to a Hong Kong jewelery company that plans to yield a large, unblemished polished gemstone for some wealthy Chinese collector.
