Shock Mansion Interviews Brian Deegan

Shock Mansion: G’day mate, thanks for your time! First off we want to congratulate you on your awesome results at X-Games; we were on the edge of our seats watching you race the Rally circuit. We wanted to start off by talking about a passion that we both share, fast cars! You currently have your foot on all sorts of pedals can you fill us in on some of the racing you currently do?

Brian Deegan: Thanks! Aside from the Speed & Style competition at the X Games, I’ve been mostly focusing on racing-cars and trucks. I recently signed on to race late model stock cars in the NASCAR circuit and race trucks in the off-road Lucas Oil Series.

Shock Mansion: We noticed the other day that you’ve got a new tattoo on your chest; can you tell us a bit about it?

Brian Deegan: Sure, I got a portrait of Jesus on my chest…I really always try to have some meaning in the tattoos I get. I have a really close family, and a big part of our lives is our faith and going to church. The tattoo was in honor of that.

Shock Mansion: Do you collect all your work from the same artist these days or switch it up as you go? Any plans for more?

Brian Deegan: I get them all done here in Temecula, California – Soul Expression. I never know, it’s been years since I got a tattoo, as it comes to me (never plan it), so we’ll see what comes up in the future.

Shock Mansion: Being from Australia ourselves, is there one place in the world you have traveled to that you suggest we visit?

Brian Deegan: Out of all of the places I’ve traveled, I’d say my favorite is Gold Coast in Australia. After that, I’d probably say Cabo, Mexico, is one of my favorite spots.

Shock Mansion: What would be your ultimate ride be? With or without modifications your choice, money is no object.

Brian Deegan: Honda 450 Dirtbike. I’m one of those guys who isn’t really into my cars other than the ones I race, would rather make sure to have a truck or car that are set up solid for racing.

Shock Mansion: You’ve got an incredible collection of toys. Can you tell us your favorite in your garage right now?

Brian Deegan: My favorite toy would have to be my Ford Prolite race truck.

Shock Mansion: Metal Mulisha has became a household name in the Freestyle MX industry, what where your expectations when you started the company?

Brian Deegan: It’s become a household name in more than the Freestyle industry and it’s really cool to be a part of that process and growth of the brand. When I first started, I was trying to put a name on a group of friends and it was all about having our own group. The clothing part didn’t really start until 2-3 years after we started the group. In the end, I never really expected it to grow to this level.

Shock Mansion: You’re an inspirational businessman, what advice would you give to any aspiring entrepreneurs reading this who are keen to start a business themselves?

Brian Deegan: We took a lot of chances, succeeded at some and failed at others. But I tried a lot of things and we stayed to the core of what we were, a group of guys riding and being friends. As a company owner I think it’s staying true to what your beliefs are and people see that and respect that. Don’t give up early, know there will be ups and downs.

Shock Mansion: A zombie infection is sweeping across America, what would be your weapon of choice to fend off the brain hungry monsters?

Brian Deegan: If we got attacked by zombies, I guess I’d use one of the machine guns that I keep under my bed haha.

Shock Mansion: What’s your training regime like when you’re leading up to race day?

Brian Deegan: I train at the MMA fight gym and I do some lifting/weight training. I practice and make sure I ride everyday, bikes, trucks, cars. I have a bunch of tracks at my house.

Shock Mansion: It’s fairly obvious you’ve got a heavy right foot, how fast have you actually driven, on or off the track?

Brian Deegan: Stock car – 180/200 MPH.

Shock Mansion: Atomic war breaks out on earth, what are the top three things on you’re to do list before we all vaporize?

Brian Deegan: I think that if atomic war breaks out, I’ll only be focused on surviving and facing it!

Shock Mansion: What type of music is playing in your ears these days to get yourself pumped to race?

Brian Deegan: I pretty much just listen to heavy metal, a little old school rock. Leonard Skinnard, Metallica.

Shock Mansion: A question we ask all our guests, if you were homeless, what would your cardboard sign have written on it?

Brian Deegan: Give me your money before I punch you in the face.

Shock Mansion: What’s in store for Brian Deegan in the rest of 2010 and 2011?

Brian Deegan: Stock car racing is going to be a big focus of mine, and some truck racing.

Shock Mansion: Where can fans find more information online about your movements?

Brian Deegan: I update my twitter account (mmgeneral) regularly, and they can check out all of our bios, race results, and retail gear at www.metalmulisha.com
